FOUNDATION DEGREE IN
ECOLOGY & CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT

(OFFERED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UEA)


LEVEL 4 QUALIFICATION


Entry Requirements:
Normal entry requirements are 160 UCAS points and a successful interview. GCSEs in Maths, English and science at grade c or above are desirable. Mature students and students already employed will need a range of qualifications including or equivalent to A-Levels or Access. Prior work and learning experiences will be taken into account, accredited and considered at interview stage. 


The Course:
This course is available as a 2 year full time or 3 year part time programme and will focus on the conservation industry. It aims to equip the students with the necessary knowledge and experience to prepare them for a future career in conservation management.
There is a balance between science, management and work-based  skills which reflects the needs of the conservation industry. Work based learning modules will make use of the existing good contacts between the college and local conservation organisations. Fieldwork will be an important component of the course and the college has a good range of habitats within its own estate which will complement other local sites of ecological interest


Course Content: (indicative programme)
Research Methods and Statistics, Principles of Biological Science, Landbased Business, Practical Estate Skills, Employability Skills, Environmental Science, British Habitat Management, Ecological Principles,  Farmland Habitats, Environmental Education,  Countryside Recreation, Biodiversity, Biological Surveys, Habitat Restoration, Data Analysis and Research, Workbased Learning, Workbased Learning Project.


Progression Routes:
Upon successful completion of this Foundation Degree students can top up to a full Honours Degree at UEA in Professional Practice (Ecology & Conservation Management), or top up at other universities on a course pertinent to their specialism. Alternatively students will be well equipped with industry skills to meet demand in the workplace.


Financial Information:
Course fees for full-time Foundation Degree students are currently £3290.00 per year and for part-time students are currently £1645.00 per year. Help with fees is detailed below.



Financial Assistance:


Full-time students
If you’re studying full-time, the main sources of help are:
• Student Loans and grants from the government
• bursaries from your university or college
Student Loans from the government
All eligible students can get help with tuition fees and living costs through Student Loans.
You’ll be able to take out two Student Loans per academic year:
• a Student Loan for Tuition Fees - to cover the cost of your tuition fees in full
• a Student Loan for Maintenance - to help with accommodation and other living costs (how much you get depends on your household income)
 


Easton College Bursary Award (ECBA)


Full-time students can apply for a non-refundable bursary of £1000 per year from the ECBA which will be paid in two instalments at the end of each semester.
Students receiving the full value Higher Education Maintenance Grant (HEMG) will be eligible to apply for support through the Easton College HE Learning Fund and all other students receiving less than the full HEMG may be eligible for pro-rata assistance from the Fund (all students must complete a means-tested application). This is paid each semester.
